Destination guide
Atchala Ghar (Nazrul Memorial), Karpasdanga
আটচালা ঘর (নজরুল স্মৃতি), কার্পাশডাঙ্গা
The national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam once stayed in this atchala (eight-eaved) house — the home of Congress leader Mahanta Sarkar. Some say he lived here two months, others that he visited several times for long stretches — the details differ, but one thing repeats in every account: a cluster of the poet's writings was born in this house's atmosphere. Worn by age, the house now stands in loving memory.
History & significance
By local accounts, writings such as 'Lichu Chor' and 'Obhishap' are believed to have been composed during his stays here. One traveller explains the connection through the poet's kinship with Mahanta Sarkar's family.
How to get there
The area starts right past Karpasdanga bazar — bus/auto from Chuadanga via Damurhuda, then a rickshaw. Ask for 'Nazrul's atchala house' and everyone will know it.
