BijoyNagar Litchi Gardens (Kalachhara)
বিজয়নগর লিচুবাগান (কালাছড়া)
BijoyNagar is the kingdom of litchi. Hilly roads over red-soil mounds, rows of mud houses, and litchi trees in almost every courtyard — visitors say the place feels like Bandarban or Sajek. Kalachhara is the most famous corner: the red-soil views near the border keep photographers so busy they lose track of time.
How to get there
By train from Dhaka or Sylhet, get off at Mukundapur station and reserve an auto or CNG to explore. From Cumilla or Chattogram, take the Akhaura bypass road straight in. One traveller reports a reserved tomtom from Champaknagar to Aulia Bazar costs around ৳500. The Dhaka–Sylhet highway also reaches here directly.
Entry fee
No verified entry fee yet
There is no entry ticket for the orchards — in season you can buy straight from the trees. Prices change with the season, so agree on the price before buying.
Opening hours & best time
As an open orchard area you can roam all day, though daylight is best. One traveller notes wholesale litchi trading at Aulia Bazar starts after 8 in the morning.
Best time
Between 10 May and 10 June — visitors agree this is the litchi season. Late afternoon brings softer light, best for photos.
Traveller tips
In season, expect ৳350–450 per hundred litchis, travellers report — ask for the Bombay, Patnai, China-2/3 and Elachi varieties.
If you picnic, leave no litter — the locals themselves ask for this.
Shoot the red-soil views near the border — many call them the area's best frames.
Kalachhara once grew tea — it's gone now, but the story is worth hearing; Aulia Bazar's eateries work for a meal.
