Destination guide
Charmala Char (mini Cox's Bazar)
চরমালা চর
A white sandy strip in the middle of the Madhumati, about 20 km from the district town — 'deep water all around, and a strip of desert in the middle'. Boat access only, and the ride is half the fun. Crowds come from neighbouring districts too.
History & significance
A recent gift of the river: the char took its present form at the start of a recent January when the water fell, spread through social media, and now draws thousands of visitors on good days.
How to get there
From the district town head towards the Char Mathla area (Jalalabad union, Gopalganj Sadar) and take a trawler or boat from the ghat.
Entry fee
No verified entry fee yet
No entry ticket reported; you pay only the boat fare — agree it before boarding.
Opening hours & best time
Daytime, and only a dry-season destination — high river water covers the sand.

Winter afternoons, early in the season and not after heavy upstream rain.
Traveller tips
Keep children away from the deep edge; don't swim if you are not confident.
Carry water and snacks — no permanent shops on the char.
