Destination guide
Dakatia River
ডাকাতিয়া নদী
A river of about 207 km that comes down from Tripura's hills, crosses Cumilla, threads through Chandpur and joins the Meghna. At Shahatuli in Moishadi, Chandpur Sadar, a lovely riverbank spot called 'Nodibari' has grown up — sit here in the afternoon light and time simply slips away.
History & significance
To Moishadi's people the river is life and threat at once. Erosion has put many families at risk — and within that delta uncertainty, the riverbank is becoming a travellers' spot.
How to get there
Auto/CNG from Chandpur town to Shahatuli ghat; a dinghi boat across costs just 20 taka. Trawlers run towards the Faridganj-Shahrasti stretch if you want to see that side.
Entry fee
৳0–20 · traveller-reported
No ticket for the river; the crossing boat is 20 taka.
Opening hours & best time
All day; but the late-afternoon atmosphere is everyone's favourite.
Best time
Monsoon floods both banks and the kash blooms — many love it; yet one August visitor wished for a rainier sky.
Traveller tips
Erosion-prone area — don't clamber down the bank carelessly.
Watermelon trawlers run the river in season — good for photos.
