Destination guide
Dharmasagar Dighi
ধর্মসাগর দিঘি
The heart of Cumilla town — though named a 'sagar', it is really one vast tank of about 23 acres. Mornings belong to health-conscious elders, noons to teenagers, evenings to everyone — whatever hour you come, the place lifts you, visitors agree. Boating around the dighi is its most popular pastime.
History & significance
It is generally said that Tripura's Maharaja Dharmamanikya dug it in the mid-15th century (about 1457–58) to give his subjects water — and named it after himself. The dighi is also linked to the Cumilla days of Kazi Nazrul Islam and Sachin Dev Burman.
