Destination guide
Friendship Centre
ফ্রেন্ডশিপ সেন্টার
An internationally celebrated piece of architecture hidden behind green fields along the Balasi road — the training complex of the NGO Friendship. Brick walls, courtyards and ponds, most of the complex built below ground beneath a blanket of turf, so the fields roll right over it. Architecture lovers detour from far away; everyone else goes for the unearthly quiet and the photo angles.
History & significance
Built as the rural training centre of Friendship, an organisation serving the remote char and river-basin communities of this region. The building won the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2016.
