Destination guide
Golap Gram (Rose Village)
গোলাপ গ্রাম
Bangladesh's own flower village — rose, gladiolus, marigold and mustard fields around Sadullapur, Shyampur and Mostapara in Birulia, Savar, along the Turag. The easiest village day from the capital.
History & significance
Commercial rose cultivation began here in 1990 on former Bhawal estate land; today roughly nine in ten local farming families live off flowers. Housing projects buying the fields are slowly shrinking the village.
How to get there
By boat: engine trawler from Diabari ghat (Mirpur-12) to Sadullapur ghat, ৳40, then a ৳20 battery auto. By road: bus to Savar/Birulia, then an auto for ৳20–40. From Uttara: rickshaw/auto across Birulia bridge, ৳100–200 reserve.
Entry fee
৳0–50 · traveller-reported
Walking the village is free; entering a rose field for photos costs about ৳50 per person; picking flowers brings a fine (৳100–500 per flower reported).
Opening hours & best time
No gates or fixed hours — come in daylight; the Mostapara wholesale flower market runs at night.
Best time
Peak bloom late November to late February; go early in the morning.
Traveller tips
No vehicles inside the lanes — wear covered shoes; paths are thorny red mud.
Buy flowers — bouquets are ৳80–150, a fraction of city prices; that is the support farmers actually need.
