Haziganj Historic Boro Mosque
হাজীগঞ্জ ঐতিহাসিক বড় মসজিদ
The district's best-known mosque, standing in Haziganj about 22 km from town — its 188-foot minaret catches the eye from far away. Worshippers come to pray; travellers come for the architecture.
History & significance
Built between 1931 and 1937 on Ahmad Ali Patwari's waqf land. Capacity figures are reported grandly — some say one hundred thousand, others ten thousand; cost accounts differ too. Whatever the true numbers, it's the first name in the district when a big mosque is mentioned.
How to get there
Bus or CNG from Chandpur town, 50–70 taka. It sits beside the Dhaka–Cumilla highway, so buses pass right by.
Entry fee
৳0 · traveller-reported
Free — like any ordinary mosque.
Opening hours & best time
The mosque is open all day; busiest at prayer times.
Best time
Morning or after the afternoon prayer, when the light is good — praised as the time for photos.
Traveller tips
Don't climb at the base of the minaret for photos — safety matter.
