Destination guide
Kana Bari (the Windowless House)
কানা বাড়ি
A mysterious aristocratic mansion in Gopalpur village, Boalmari — about 190 feet long and, true to its nickname, without a single door or window. Two sealed underground tunnels are said to run from the ground floor. Note: part of it collapsed in 2023 — view from a distance.
History & significance
Locals put it at ~200 years: brick, lime-surki and chun-gambhira with black-stone floors. One account says a landlord named Jin Box built it around 1850 and Kali Prasanna Singh Ray later bought it. The village legend explains the name: the owner, it is said, had his son-in-law's eyes ("kana") put out.
How to get there
From Dhaka, a Boalmari-bound bus from Gulistan/Sirajganj stand; get off at Gopalpur beside the school and take a short rickshaw. From Faridpur town, Boalmari buses and lagunas run regularly (~30 km).
