College Kheya Ghat (Sugandha crossing)

কলেজ খেয়া ঘাট

At the little ferry ghats by the college, Jhalokati's daily life crosses the Sugandha — students, market-goers, motorbikes loaded onto the boat. The crossing itself is the attraction: ৳10 a head, five minutes on the water, landing in Nalchity territory. Completely authentic, and about as cheap as travel gets.

History & significance

The ferry crossing has joined the two banks for generations; the ghat beside the mini park also serves the same daily crossers.

How to get there

From the town centre the college-side ghat is a short rickshaw ride. Boats shuttle through the day. On the far bank, autos wait near the Shaheed Minar for anywhere in Nalchity.

Entry fee

৳10 · traveller-reported

Reported ৳10 per person per crossing — about ৳20 return.

Opening hours & best time

Daylight hours, boats leaving as they fill; mornings and late afternoons are busiest.

Best time

Morning or late afternoon — that's when the ghat shows its real face.

Traveller tips

  • Ride both ways once — the return view of the town from the water is the better one.

  • Carry small change — the fare is literally a tenner.

  • Heading to the Nalchity boat market, crossing here is the cheapest way in.
