Mongla Port
মংলা বন্দর
On the bank of the Pashur river stands the country's second largest seaport — Mongla. For travellers it does two jobs: it is the water gateway to the Sundarbans, and a sight in itself — foreign ships, the wide river and lines of trawlers. Many say that standing on the Pashur bank in the afternoon light, the sun sets while you are still taking pictures. The night-bus terminus is here too.
History & significance
Bangladesh's second seaport, on the Pashur river beside the Sundarbans — the heart of Bagerhat's sea trade.
How to get there
Bus or CNG from Bagerhat town — about 30–40 km; buses also run from the mazar area. The Karamjal boats leave from Mongla too.
Entry fee
No verified entry fee yet
No ticket for the river bank; trawler rides are a separate bargain.
Opening hours & best time
The port runs round the clock; daylight is plenty for visitors.
Best time
Afternoon — the ship line and the sunset together.
Traveller tips
Book the Karamjal boat ahead — sharing the hire with a group is cheapest.
Don't enter the port's restricted zones — the river bank and jetty edges are plenty.
