Destination guide
Naboshalban Vihara
নবশালবন বিহার
Directly opposite the ancient ruins stands a living Buddhist monastery — founded in 1995 on about 2.5 acres. Its star sight is a roughly 30-foot golden Buddha statue that shines in daylight and catches your eye from afar. Devotees pray here daily, so the place feels alive — travellers especially remember the contrast between the dead ruins and this living shrine.
History & significance
The statue was a gift from a foreign Buddhist foundation — some travellers say it came from Thailand, others from Malaysia. All agree it has made the place known as a monastery of peace for Buddhists of South-East Asia.
