Padma River (Rajshahi riverfront)

পদ্মা নদী

No trip to Rajshahi feels complete without the Padma riverfront. Travellers almost universally say the sunset hour is the real draw — golden light on the water, a steady river breeze and street-food stalls along the embankments. T-Bandh and I-Bandh are the two walking embankments, and Padma Garden nearby adds children's rides and snack stalls.

৳25–30 · traveller-reported

History & significance

The embankments are river-erosion protection works: the one shaped like the letter I gave I-Bandh its name, and the T-shaped one at Sreerampur became T-Bandh. Built to shield the city from the Padma's bite, they have turned into Rajshahi's favourite sunset promenade.

How to get there

An easy rickshaw or CNG ride from Zero Point (Saheb Bazar), roughly ৳30–50. I-Bandh sits beside Bangabandhu Hi-Tech Park about 5–6 km out; T-Bandh is on the riverbank at Sreerampur; Padma Garden is the closest to town — a short rickshaw hop.

Entry fee

৳25–30 · traveller-reported

Walking the embankments is free. Padma Garden charges about ৳25–30 entry. Shared country-boat rides run around ৳100 per person for the return trip; a reserved boat costs considerably more.

Opening hours & best time

An open public space with no fixed closing hour — but food stalls stay shut around midday and open from late afternoon.

Best time

Late afternoon until just after sunset. In winter the water recedes and you can walk the sandbars among kash flowers; in the monsoon the river is at its fullest but rough — best to skip small boats then.

Traveller tips

  • The embankments are wide open — take a hat or umbrella; the sun bites.

  • Ask for a life jacket before boarding, and avoid small boats when the monsoon swell is up.

  • Try peyara makha (spiced guava) at Padma Garden from ৳40 — ask for less spice if you prefer it mild.

  • Fish markets form at the ghats in the early morning — go early to bargain for fresh river shrimp.

  • T-Bandh and I-Bandh are about 2.5 km apart — carry water if you plan to walk both.
