Ramsagar

রামসাগর

About 8 km south of town lies a vast old tank — roughly 1,079 metres long and 192 metres wide. Greenery all around, birdsong, and a red glow on the water at dusk; travellers call it Dinajpur's calmest corner. Inside you will find a small zoo, boats, picnic spots, and van-rickshaws to circle the grounds.

History & significance

Around the mid-eighteenth century, Dinajpur's Raja Ramnath Ray had the tank dug to shield people from drought and water scarcity — thousands of labourers are said to have worked on it year after year. It takes his name: Ramsagar. The surrounding area was declared a national park in 2001.

How to get there

A reserved auto from Maharaja Mor in town — one group bargained a ৳160 round trip. Motorbikes can enter the grounds too.
