Shopnopuri

স্বপ্নপুরী

On roughly 400 acres at Aftabganj in Nawabganj, this is North Bengal's busiest amusement centre. An artificial lake and hills, shal gardens, a flower-lined path, replicas of the seven wonders, a haunted house, rides, a zoo, a fish world — and crowds, especially Fridays and Saturdays. With family, it takes a whole day; squeeze it into a one-day circuit and the rest of Dinajpur disappears.

History & significance

Built in the 1990s — the name joins স্বপ্ন (dream) and পুরী (town/realm). It is now a favourite picnic ground not just for Dinajpur but all of North Bengal, and locals say many film shoots have used the grounds.

How to get there

Distances vary by account — some say 25 km, others around 50; it is at Aftabganj in Nawabganj, half an hour to an hour by auto-rickshaw or car. From Dhaka, reach Dinajpur first, then take a CNG or bus straight to Shopnopuri.
