Sitakot Vihara
সীতাকোট বিহার
At Dhogram village in Nawabganj lies a Buddhist monastery buried for some fifteen hundred years — rows of small monk cells along the walls and the base of a central shrine in the middle. It rarely draws tourist crowds, so you often get the whole site to yourself.
History & significance
It is dated somewhere between the sixth and eighth centuries; villagers digging earth first exposed the mound, and the Department of Archaeology excavated it in 1968. Some forty monk cells line the walls (others have counted more), and a stone stupa with a seal of Śrī Ānanda Deva was found inside.
How to get there
By one traveller's tally 40–45 km from Dinajpur town, via Nawabganj — go by car or a reserved van; local transport is thin, so fix your return ride in advance.
