Three Rivers Confluence (Boro Station / Molhead)

তিন নদীর মোহনা

The meeting point of the Padma, Meghna and Dakatia rivers. Known locally as Boro Station or Molhead, this riverfront is Chandpur's main attraction. Almost every traveller says the same thing — the sunset here and the wall of water on all sides feel like standing at the edge of the sea.

History & significance

The Boro Station area grew up under the British in the early 1900s and has been Chandpur's transport hub ever since. Molhead itself is a protective embankment built to shield the shore from the current. In 1971, Pakistani forces killed many people here and floated the bodies down the river — the Roktodhara memorial stands here in their memory. The adjacent Puran Bazar has been a jute and hilsa trading centre since the 18th–19th century; some call it the 'trade capital of eastern Bengal'.

How to get there

Direct launches run from Sadarghat, Dhaka to Chandpur — roughly every 30–60 minutes from early morning to late afternoon, a 3–4 hour trip. From Chandpur launch terminal, an auto or shared tempo gets you to Boro Station for 10–20 taka. The railway station and the mohana park are in the same area — you can walk.

Traveller tips

  • Boats carry no life jackets — just tyres. You're responsible for your own safety.

  • The confluence has fierce currents and whirlpools — don't enter the water even if you can swim.

  • The Roktodhara memorial and the hilsa sculpture stand in the same park.

  • Some visitors complain about litter in the park — don't add to it.
