Wari-Bateshwar Ruins→Historic · Narsingdi, DhakaOne of the oldest urban settlements in Bangladesh, occupied mainly in the Iron Age (400-100 BCE), with a 600 x 600 m moated citadel and about 6 km of outer fortification. An ancient paved road, punch-marked silver coins and evidence of Southeast Asian and Roman trade underline its importance; some researchers identify it with Ptolemy's 'Sounagora' emporium (a hypothesis). The features lie dispersed across farmland, so walking village paths is the real way to experience the site.
