Bhadra Lake (RDA Park)

ভাদ্রা লেক

A small green lung by Bhadra mor on the city's eastern side. Ghat steps run down to the lake, two decorative bridges cross it, and the park just north — today's RDA Park — adds swan-shaped paddle boats, a mini train and horse rides. When the coloured lights come on at dusk, the whole place takes on a different mood.

History & significance

The park was once Captain Mansur Ali Park, known to everyone as Bhadra Park; after renovation it is now called RDA Park. The area has been a leisure spot since British days, and some locals say the lake itself was excavated after 2018.

How to get there

Along Shaheed Captain Jahangir Road near the Dhaka–Rajshahi highway, just past the Smriti Amalan monument — lake on the south side, park on the north. About ৳30–40 by rickshaw from the city centre; from Bhadra bus stand it is a short walk.

Entry fee

৳20–50 · traveller-reported

Entry ৳20–25 (two travellers quote different prices); each ride — boat, mini train, horse — costs ৳50 per person.

Opening hours & best time

Roughly 09:00–19:00, shifted a little between summer and winter. It has closed and reopened around renovation before — check locally that the gate is open before you set out.

Best time

Late afternoon into the evening, when the lights come on. Daytime is shadier-free but quiet.

Traveller tips

  • The western gate usually stays shut — enter through the main gate.

  • Some ghat steps and patches of water grow algae — mind your footing on the evening walk.

  • Outside food is technically not allowed; the inside shops sell ice cream and juice.

  • The park circuit takes 10–15 minutes — spend the rest of the evening on the chotpoti and fuchka stalls at Bhadra mor.

  • A bridge links it to Chandrima Lake — you can walk from one lake to the other.
