Destination guide
Bhadrabati River
ভদ্রাবতী নদী
In the monsoon the trees along the Bhadrabati in Nandigram stand waist-deep in water — people come precisely to glide a small boat through this flooded forest, which locals call 'Ratargul of Bogura'. Birds calling between the branches, green corridors of water — but remember, this magic lasts only about four months a year.
History & significance
Two stories explain the name: one says it comes from Bhadrabati, daughter of the last Sen king; another says it comes from a Panchakot princess and the Bhadu festival, some 200 years ago. Both are folk accounts — neither is settled.
How to get there
From Bogura, go via the Sherpur College rotation to the CNG stand — get off at Bhadai Bazar (next to Muradpur Bazar) for the boat ghat. Another route: Charmatha → Kundarhat → Bhadai Bazar. Nobody reports a town-to-ghat fare — settle it locally. Parking at the ghat: bike ৳20, CNG ৳30, car ৳50.
Entry fee
No verified entry fee yet
No ticket for the ghat. Boats are ৳40 per person — three accounts agree. A whole reserved boat is ৳300–500 (two different figures were reported); a trawler is ৳50 per head.
Opening hours & best time
Exact hours not verified — go in daylight; rain can submerge the approach roads, and one group got stranded midway.
Best time
Monsoon — 'the Bhadrabati brims for only four months'; in the dry season the river nearly disappears. Fridays and Saturdays are crowded, and after heavy rain the water turns murky.
Traveller tips
The boats are small with weak brakes — keep distance to avoid mid-river bumps.
There are almost no shops at the ghat — eat before you come, or at Bhadai/Nandigram Bazar.
You can hop off at a riverside neighbourhood midway — though shops are sparse there too.
