Bhimruli Floating Guava Market
ভিমরুলি ভাসমান পেয়ারা বাজার
Ask anyone what to see around Barishal and the first name is the Bhimruli floating guava market. In the narrow canals of Atghar Bhimruli (Jhalokati), farmers arrive by boatloads of guavas and wholesalers buy them by the crate from trawlers — many call this stretch the 'Venice of Bengal'. Bananas and kakrol also trade here, but guava is king.
How to get there
Take a reserved CNG from Barishal city to Adamkathi Bazar — a full day can be asked at Tk 1,200, so bargain. From Adamkathi, hire a boat for the market and orchards — Tk 300–350 per hour, again negotiable. Alternative route: reserve a trawler from Atghar Kuriana (a traveller bargained Tk 1,600 down to Tk 900).
Entry fee
৳0 · traveller-reported
No entry ticket — the only cost is the boat hire (Tk 300–350 per hour).
Opening hours & best time
8:00–10:30 AM — the market winds down right after.
Best time
Guava season is best; off-season brings the hog-plum market, and the green canals stay beautiful year-round.
Traveller tips
Leave the city by 6–7 AM or the market will be over by 10:30.
Both boats and vehicles quote high first prices — bargain.
Don't lose time at Mia Bari Mosque on the way.
Many recommend lunch at the floating 'Boudi's Hotel' at Bhimruli.
The bridge beside the market gives the best single panorama.
