Chachra Shiva Temple
চাচড়া শিব মন্দির
A Shiva temple from 1696 standing at Chachra, right on the edge of Jashore town. The main attraction is the extraordinary terracotta on its walls — carved burnt clay. Temples this old are rarely seen, so travellers find themselves stopping right by the road — step inside and the architecture speaks for itself.
History & significance
The temple is known to have been built in 1696, in the Mughal era — Bengali-style curved-roof architecture with a shiva-lingam inside. The Chachra zamindar house stands nearby; the area was once a zamindari centre. A fair is held here every Shiva Chaturdashi.
How to get there
Only ৳30-40 by rickshaw from Jashore town — the temple sits right beside the road, hard to miss. It also falls on the way if you come via Noapara.
Entry fee
৳0 · traveller-reported
No ticket to enter — free.
Opening hours & best time
Open all day; it gets crowded during pujas and Shivaratri.
Best time
Any time of year; the Shiva Chaturdashi fair gives the place a different colour. Morning light brings out the terracotta work best.
Traveller tips
If you love taking photos, come in the morning — the wall carvings photograph best in direct light.
The Chachra zamindar house is close by — cover both in one trip.
It is an active shrine — stay respectful and avoid touching the old walls.
