Chattogram Zoo
চট্টগ্রাম চিড়িয়াখানা
Built on a hillside right beside Foy's Lake's main gate — royal white tigers, lions, bears, deer, birds and reptiles. You climb winding hill steps as you go, which makes it feel quite different from flat zoos elsewhere. Visitors nearly all mention how clean it is.
History & significance
Opened 28 February 1989. It began as a private initiative led by then-Deputy Commissioner MA Mannan and city elites; the government first allotted 4.9 acres, later expanded to 10.2. It started with 22 animals of 5 species — now around 520 animals across 66 species. Bangladesh's first white tiger was born here in 2018.
How to get there
In Khulshi, beside the Foy's Lake gate. 3-4 km from GEC Circle — rickshaw, CNG or bus drops you at the gate. Even a ৳10 bus ride from Agrabad gets you here.
Entry fee
No verified entry fee yet
Travellers report the ticket between ৳50-70 — some paid ৳50, some ৳70 — confirm at the gate.
Opening hours & best time
Visitors report it open from 10:00 to 17:00.
Best time
Go in the morning — animals hide in the shade by midday sun. A sunny winter day is the most comfortable.
Traveller tips
There are lots of hill steps — wear comfortable shoes and pace yourself if travelling with elders.
The white tigers and lions are the big draw — the upper enclosures also give you a city view through the hills.
With small kids, finish before noon — crowds and sun both build up after midday.
