Ghaghot Sena Proyash Recreation Park

Wrapping both banks of the Ghaghot river under army supervision stands a large recreation park — Ghaghot Sena Proyash Recreation Park. Nearly 1,100 acres of open ground, river breeze and tidy, well-kept grounds — there is hardly a bigger open space this close to town. A ticket opens it to everyone, and 75 percent of the park's income goes to the welfare of persons with disabilities — which is what the name 'Proyash' actually stands for.
History & significance
The Bangladesh Army built this park across both banks of the Ghaghot in 2013. 'Proyash' is the army's welfare programme for persons with disabilities — a large share of the park's revenue funds exactly that. Travellers describe the place as neat and well-kept; being army-run, its cleanliness and discipline stand apart from the usual riverside sprawl. The Ghaghot itself rises in the Jaldhaka area of Nilphamari and winds past Rangpur and Gaibandha towns before meeting the Brahmaputra — a slow, serpentine river.
How to get there
The park sits on Rangpur's western edge — about 3-4 km out along Nisbetganj Road, spread across both banks of the Ghaghot. A rickshaw, auto or CNG from the railway station or bus stand gets you there easily; drivers know it as "Sena Proyash Park" or "Ghaghot Park". You can drive there yourself too.
