Himchari National Park & Waterfall

হিমছড়ি জাতীয় উদ্যান ও ঝর্ণা

Hill, waterfall and ocean in one ticket, right beside the sea — there's nothing else like it near Cox's Bazar. Locals say a Cox's Bazar trip feels incomplete without the falls. Up top: a broad plateau, concrete stairs, hanging bridges, watch towers and an 'I Love Himchari' frame. From the summit the whole beach unrolls below, and one traveller notes the sea shows three bands of colour from up there.

History & significance

One account says the hill's old name was 'Himpuri Pahar' — legend has sea-fairies resting on its summit. Locals once gathered firewood here; until a few years ago there were only dirt tracks — today's stairs, shelters and towers are all new, with more construction underway.

How to get there

About 8–9 km from Dolphin Mor (12 from town), 20–25 minutes by auto/CNG. Local CNG 50 tk each; reserved 200–250 tk; a full Marine Drive round trip runs up to 1,100 tk (bargain at Dolphin Mor). A chander gari for the day is 4,000 tk — share it between 10–15 people, the fare is the same however many ride.

Entry fee

৳40 · traveller-reported

40 tk per person — the near-universal figure (one heard 30 but was charged 40; 30 and 50 also come up). One ticket covers both the hill and the falls; an inner gate checks it.

Opening hours & best time

One account notes it doesn't open before 8 am. Fridays get very crowded.

Best time

The falls flow only in the rainy season — dry or a trickle the rest of the year, so come in monsoon for them. For sunset, climb in late afternoon. The popular routine: Patuartek and Inani after lunch, then Himchari's summit in the golden hour.

Traveller tips

  • The photographer trick works here too — '5–10 photos' becomes hundreds and a bill; fix count and price first or decline.

  • Whether the falls are natural is debated — residents insist on a natural spring, others suspect pumped water; you'll hear both views.

  • Summit photo chairs 10 tk for 3 minutes; coconuts 150–160 tk, hill papaya 50 tk a plate; a Burmese market sits outside the gate.

  • No hotels at Himchari itself — head back to town to sleep.
