Kal Bhairab Temple
কালভৈরব মন্দির
The old Shiva temple at Medda is the first name on everyone's lips in Brahmanbaria. Visitors almost all say the same thing — the giant Shiva statue fills your eyes; many claim it stands about 63 feet tall and is counted among the largest in Asia. But the temple's real charm lies elsewhere: Hindus and Muslims together look after it like their own, and hearing that story warms your heart.
History & significance
Locals say the temple is around four hundred years old. Every year in the month of Falgun a huge festival draws crowds in the lakhs, many travellers report. And the story told most often: during troubled times it was the local Muslim neighbours who protected the idol — that story of care is the temple's greatest treasure.
How to get there
Medda sits inside town. From the rail station take a shared auto for ৳20, then a rickshaw drops you at the temple gate. Many visitors instead reserve an auto for a one-hour town tour at around ৳400. The temple is right beside Medda bus stand — ask anyone and they will point the way.
