Kalitla Ghat
কালিতলা ঘাট
A ghat on the Jamuna at Sariakandi — now one of the most talked-about spots among Bogura travellers. People describe it as a 'mini Cox's Bazar' feel: a boat ride before sunset, fields of kash flowers, river wind, and street food along the ghat. One visitor joked that on Fridays 'there isn't even room to stand.'
History & significance
In 1995–96 the government built an anti-erosion embankment here, and the ghat and bazaar grew around it, as researchers note. The nearby Prem Jamuna Ghat is a Water Development Board embankment too. Stories of homes and villages swallowed by the river are a constant presence along this bank.
How to get there
About 22 km east of Bogura town — the figure most travellers give, though one put it at 45 km depending on the route. Share auto/CNG from town runs around ৳50 per person, or reserve a CNG. Others take a bus to Sariakandi (৳50–70); the ghat is about 3 km from the upazila town.
Entry fee
No verified entry fee yet
No ticket for the ghat itself — the cost is the boat. Travellers report ৳50 per person for a half-hour shared engine-boat ride; a full-day private charter for a char picnic runs around ৳2,000.
Opening hours & best time
There's no gate, but the crowd builds after 3 pm — the bazaar sits nearly empty at noon, and everyone boats back before dark.
Best time
Afternoon light is the loveliest. Autumn brings fields of kash flowers; winter mornings gild the river with golden light — each season has its own charm. In the monsoon water swallows everything and the chars drown.
Traveller tips
Arrive after 3 pm — that's when visitors and boats are at their best.
Bargain the boat fare; the rooftop seat gives you the best river views.
Keep off the char farmland — lentil fields have been trampled by careless visitors.
Try the hand-made ruti with shutki bhorta, and the milky 'special' tea.
No long boat trips after dark — the boatmen say so too; crowds swell after Eid.
