Kirtipasha Zamindar House
কীর্তিপাশা জমিদার বাড়ি
A 150-plus-year-old zamindar mansion in Kirtipasha village, a short ride from town — an overgrown ruin where European and Mughal design still shows through the jungle. So abandoned that visitors half-joke it's haunted. For those who love melancholy heritage spots, it is unforgettable.
History & significance
Accounts differ on the zamindar family's name — different travellers were told Rohini Kumar Sen and Manikchandra Ray, whose last descendant was Manilal Chattopadhyay. All agree the house is crumbling and the estate long gone; part of its land now holds a girls' school, with the Nursing College opposite. The zamindars' Durga temple lives on in a mural at the district entrance Chattar.
How to get there
Kirtipasha is in Jhalokati Sadar upazila — 10–20 minutes from town by rickshaw or reserved auto. Ask locals for the way; everyone in the village knows the house.
