Malnicherra Tea Estate
মালনীছড়া চা বাগান
Just 4 km from the city lies one of the subcontinent's oldest tea gardens — Malnicherra. Rolling green hillocks, rows of tea bushes and winding lanes; many say the garden is at its most enchanting on a light-rain afternoon. Nowhere else do you find this much quiet so close to downtown.
History & significance
Commonly held to be the subcontinent's first commercial tea garden — some date it to 1854, others to 1858; either way it stands among the country's oldest estates.
How to get there
A reserved rickshaw from Amberkhana costs about ৳50 — the garden lies right along the Airport Road. Easy by CNG or rickshaw from anywhere downtown.

Best time
Late afternoon — and a light drizzle makes it unforgettable; a foggy winter morning is lovely too.
Traveller tips
Pair the garden with a Sada Pathor morning — spend too long at Bholaganj and Malnicherra gets missed.
Don't litter inside or climb the tea bushes — the guards may object.
Being so close to town, it is a great light stop before a flight or train.
