Destination guide
Mathurapur Deul
মথুরাপুর দেউল
A twelve-sided terracotta tower, about 70–80 ft tall, rising over the fields near Madhukhali. Travellers call it the district's most photographed structure after the poet's house — and nobody quite knows what it was for, which is half its charm.
History & significance
16th–17th century; its purpose is unverified. Accounts credit commanders Sangram Singh or Raja Mansingh (as a victory pillar) or a local zamindar — travellers caution none of the claims has solid proof. Even the height differs: 70 vs 80 feet in different tellings.
How to get there
Bus from Faridpur to Madhukhali (~60 tk, 24–25 km), then a rickshaw (50 tk) or local laguna (10 tk); the deul is about 2 km from Madhukhali bazar.
