Mithapukur Eco-Park

মিঠাপুকুর ইকো পার্ক

Run by the Bangladesh Forest Department, Mithapukur Eco-Park spreads over roughly 226 acres of sal forest — old sal stands lined with minjiri and teak. It opened with a formal inauguration on 2 August 2014 and is the only eco-park in Rangpur district. A patch of green away from town noise; if you are visiting Mithapukur, it fits neatly into a day plan alongside the sights nearby.

History & significance

Construction began in August 2013 over about 220 acres of sal forest in the Shalti Gopalpur bit of the Mithapukur Forest Range, and the park was inaugurated on 2 August 2014. The range itself dates to 1956; sal trees nearly 150 years old still stand here, home to wildlife like jackals, mongooses and pythons. The Forest Department's own listing also calls it Mithapukur National Park.

How to get there

The park sits beside the Rangpur-Dhaka highway — about 8-12 km west of Mithapukur sadar and roughly 24 km from Rangpur town. Take a Rangpur-Mithapukur bus, get off at the park junction, then cover the last stretch by local transport. Travellers usually do it as a day trip — see the park, have a meal at nearby Hotel Ahad, then head on to Pirganj or back to Rangpur; that plan works well. Opening hours & best time

We couldn't verify the opening hours. It's best to visit in daylight, and confirm the timing before you set out.

Best time

Visit in daylight — the forest paths take time, so arriving in the morning lets you go slow. The park is at its most comfortable in winter sunshine.

Traveller tips

  • In one day you can also take in the old Phulchouki Jame Mosque and the shrine of Nurul Din — they fall along the same route in Mithapukur.

  • Many travellers plan their day around eating at nearby Hotel Ahad after the park.

  • Confirm tickets and opening times beforehand — we found no verified information on either.

  • Carry water and a light snack — inside a large forest tract you can't count on shops.
