Nayabad Mosque

নয়াবাদ মসজিদ

Just two kilometres from the Kantajew Temple, beside the Dhepa river, stands this small mosque of 1793. Three domes, four octagonal corner minarets, and traces of terracotta plaques still on the walls. It is small in size but big in story — locals say the Muslim artisans and workers who came for the temple's construction built it for their own prayers; historians debate the connection.

History & significance

Built in 1793, during the reign of Mughal emperor Shah Alam II, when Raja Baidyanath held the local zamindari. The popular account credits the temple's construction artisans — but the dates do not line up neatly, and scholars have not settled the direct link.

How to get there

Two kilometres from Kantajew Temple by rickshaw or auto. Return autos are hard to find in the mosque area — book a round trip up front; one group settled ৳70 for the whole circuit.

Entry fee

Free — an active mosque with no entry ticket.

Opening hours & best time

Open through the day; it fills at prayer times — keep quiet and step back then.

Best time

Bundle it with the Kantajew Temple trip — two landmarks in one outing.

Traveller tips

  • Look for the surviving terracotta plaques — they echo the temple's ornament.

  • You may offer two rakat of nafl prayer — one traveller group ended their visit just so.
