Nil Doria
নীল দরিয়া
Nil Doria in Chatra Union of Pirganj is a vast old waterbody — tradition says it was the moat of King Nilambar's fort. Around its roughly 92 acres of water, the district administration has built a picnic spot and tourist centre — benches, swings, a walkway and boat rides. On winter days locals regularly come in big groups for picnics.
History & significance
The place carries King Nilambar Sen's name — by local tradition this wide waterbody was the moat of his capital. Left neglected for years, it has recently been given new life as a picnic spot through about one crore taka of development by the district administration and LGED.
How to get there
Nil Doria is in Chatra Union of Pirganj upazila (Jolamahal mouza) — from Rangpur town, take the Dhaka-Dinajpur highway toward Chatra Hat. We couldn't verify the exact distance or fares — a CNG or reserved car from town is the most comfortable way. The last stretch is rural road — start back before dark.
