Hazrat Shah Jamal (Rh.) Shrine
হযরত শাহ জামাল (রহ.)-এর মাজার
The shrine of the district's beloved sufi saint on the old Brahmaputra bank, next to the medical college. A quiet, breezy riverside compound where most trips to Jamalpur start and end; the sunset view from the adjacent ghat is the most photographed scene in town.
History & significance
Speakers differ on the saint's era — some say the fifteenth century, others the Akbar period around 1605; several say he came from Yemen to preach Islam. All agree the district's very name comes from him, and devotees travel to the riverside shrine from far beyond the district.
How to get there
From Jamalpur town zero point, a rickshaw toward the medical college costs 10-20 taka. Any rickshaw puller knows the shrine.
