Tajhat Palace (Tajhat Zamindar Bari)
তাজহাট জমিদার বাড়ি
Tajhat Palace is the most popular tourist spot in Rangpur. About 5-6 km from the city, the palace greets you with European-style architecture and a grand, sweeping staircase. You'll also find relics of the zamindari era here. If you want to understand Rangpur's history and heritage, this is one place you shouldn't skip.
History & significance
Legend has it that the area got its name Tajhat from a precious crown. Built in European architectural style, this palace is one of the biggest symbols of Rangpur's history and heritage. With its grand staircase and ornate designs, the palace still carries marks of the zamindari era. The Department of Archaeology declared the palace a protected monument in 1995, and since 2005 its second floor has housed the Rangpur Museum. For part of the 1980s the palace also served as the Rangpur bench of the High Court Division.
How to get there
The palace is about 5-6 km from Rangpur city. You can easily come via Shapla Chattar or Begum Rokeya University. Hiring a local rickshaw or vehicle costs around 20-30 taka.
Entry fee

Per the Department of Archaeology's ticket schedule: Bangladeshi visitors ৳20, school and madrasa students ৳5, SAARC-country visitors ৳100, and other foreign visitors ৳200. Some sources report ৳30 — the department's own list says ৳20; confirm the current figure at the gate.
Opening hours & best time
The palace stays closed all day on Sunday, and on Monday it opens only after 1:30 pm. The other five days it's open all day — in summer from 10 am to 6 pm, and in winter from 9 am to 5 pm. There is also a short daily break from 1:00 to 1:30 pm, and Friday has its own Jummah-break timing.
Best time
On hot days, walking around at midday can be tiring under the strong sun — mornings or late afternoons are more comfortable. In winter, the 9 am to 5 pm window is the best time to visit.
