Chattogram War Cemetery
চট্টগ্রাম ওয়ার সিমেট্রি
A cemetery for Allied soldiers who died in World War II — picture-perfect manicured lawn, flowers of many colours, and rows upon rows of gravestones. Amid the city's noise it holds a solemn, quiet calm — a place worth pausing in for a peek into history.
History & significance
Built after WWII by the British Army, starting with about 400 burials; graves were later brought in from Assam, Dhaka and elsewhere. It now holds 731 Commonwealth WWII burials — 17 unidentified: 471 from the UK, 207 from the then British India, plus Canada, Australia, New Zealand and others. Also buried here are 19 Japanese soldiers and one Dutch naval seaman. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission maintains it to this day.

Traveller tips
Great for photography — the lawn and flower rows frame portraits beautifully, but don't pose on the gravestones.
Entry is free, so your only cost is transport — easy to pair with a Chawkbazar visit.
It's surrounded by trees — carry mosquito repellent in the monsoon months.
