Jhapa Floating Bridge (Bhasman Setu)
ভাসমান সেতু (ঝাঁপা বাউড়)
A floating bridge built on drums stretched across the blue water of the Jhapa Baor oxbow lake — Monirampur's biggest attraction. From afar, cars seem to glide right over the water. It is no longer just a crossing — people travel in from far away to see it. The boat ride across the baor is a pleasure of its own; those who want to lose themselves in nature often point to exactly this place.
History & significance
The bridge was built so people on the two banks of the Jhapa Baor could cross. Later it was widened to about 12 feet — visitors report its length as roughly 500 metres. Local need and tourist curiosity together have made it the area's identity.
How to get there
From Jashore, a Monirampur-bound bus or CNG — get down at Rajganj and take a local van or auto. Many reserve a CNG for the day and cover the floating bridge and Sagardari together — one traveller's full-day reservation came to about ৳2,200.
Entry fee
৳5 · traveller-reported
The crossing ticket is ৳5 per person — several travellers report the same fare.
Opening hours & best time
Open all day — it is the locals' crossing, busy from the morning on.
Best time
A winter afternoon is the loveliest — sunset light on the baor. In monsoon the fuller water looks even better, but keep an eye on storms.
Traveller tips
Do not push through crowds — overcrowding creates genuine risk on a floating bridge.
The bridge sways gently; travellers report there is no risk of it capsizing.
Cross over and spend time on the far bank — rural Bengal at its best right here.
The boat crossing takes barely 10 minutes — take in the water views too.
