Vasu Bihar
ভাসুবিহার
Another archaeological site about 6 km west of Mahasthangarh, near Biharhat — locals know it as Norpatir Dhap. An eighth-century Buddhist vihara; scholars note that the ancient traveller Xuanzang mentioned a famous monastery of this area in 638 CE. If you want quiet history away from Mahasthangarh's crowds, this is the spot.
History & significance
Travellers note it was excavated in 1973–74. Historians believe the vihara of this region appeared as 'Po-shi-po' in Xuanzang's account — many connect that reference to Vasu Bihar itself.
How to get there
From Mahasthangarh, take a CNG or motorbike via Shibganj towards Biharhat. Coming straight from Bogura town, a reserved vehicle is easiest — the exact fare isn't verified, so settle it locally.

Traveller tips
Crowds are usually thin — great for photos and unhurried looking.
The excavated area is small — half an hour is enough; the rural ride there is half the pleasure.
