Ethnological Museum
জাতিতাত্ত্বিক জাদুঘর
Bangladesh's only ethnological museum — said to be one of just two in Asia. Galleries display the dress, weapons, household objects and ways of life of some 25-29 indigenous communities of the country plus several abroad. It sits right by the road in Agrabad — a calm, learned hour's visit.
History & significance
Established in 1965 and opened to the public in 1974. Two new rooms were added during 1985-95, and in 1996 a gallery of folk articles of Bengali-speaking people. Many of the indigenous objects displayed here are slowly vanishing from the world — which makes this collection all the more valuable.
How to get there
In Agrabad Commercial Area, about 5 km from the city centre. Walking distance from Badamtali Circle or Choumuhani — or a short rickshaw ride drops you at its roadside gate.
Entry fee
No verified entry fee yet
Travellers report a ৳20-30 ticket for local visitors.
Opening hours & best time
Open 10:00-18:00; visitors report it closed on Sundays and government holidays.
Best time
A winter afternoon works well — a cool, tidy pause inside Agrabad's busy day.
Traveller tips
Arrive before late afternoon — it closes at 18:00, and a last-minute entry runs short.
Pair it with errands around Choumuhani-Agrabad — Jamboree Park is close by too.
Lighting is dim in places — shoot without flash and the exhibits look better too.
